Boulders Beach

Good to know: it is forbidden to bring alcohol to the beaches in Cape Town. This applies to most public beaches, and there is even a fine for this. The ocean water in Cape Town is incredibly cold, even in summer! You can swim there, but be prepared for ice-cold water.

Clifton beaches

Clifton is one of Cape Town’s most popular and beautiful beach destinations. It consists of four bays, most of which offer some shelter from the wind. The water can be quite cold, but the views are absolutely stunning! Bring a blanket, as the sandy beaches are perfect for a picnic in the sun. Due to its popularity, it can get quite busy on weekends, so try to go during the week.

Perfect for: Sunbathing, picnicking, people watching.

Camps Bay

Camps Bay is the beach where it all happens! It is a lively stretch of coastline with a promenade lined with restaurants and bars. Perfect for a day of relaxing on the sand, and for a refreshing drink after sunset. It is busier than the quieter beaches, but it has a fantastic atmosphere and the views of the 12 Apostles (the mountain range) are breathtaking.

Perfect for: Sunbathing, bars, atmosphere.

Muizenberg Beach

Muizenberg is famous for its colourful houses and is one of the best places to learn to surf. It is a popular destination for both locals and tourists, and the water is relatively warm compared to other beaches in Cape Town. There are surf schools and rental companies, so if you have always wanted to learn to surf, this is the place to go!

Perfect for: Surfing, family outings.

Beta Beach

Beta Beach is a hidden spot at the foot of Llandudno. It is really a mini beach, and therefore unfortunately very busy. Nevertheless, it is a favourite spot of ours. The water is usually calm, making it perfect for swimming or just enjoying the view of the surrounding rocks and mountains. Please note that there are no sunbeds or toilets available here.

Perfect for: Swimming, photo opportunities, watching the sunset

Boulders Beach

Boulders Beach, famous for its penguins, is one of Cape Town’s most fun and unique beaches. It’s a great place for families as the waters are calm and it’s easy to get to. Not only can you swim in the crystal clear waters, but you can also see the African penguins up close. Be aware that there is an entrance fee to enter the area (approximately R80 per person).

Perfect for: Penguin watching, swimming, families.

Blouberg-strand

Bloubergstrand is the ideal spot for stunning views of Table Mountain and is a mecca for windsurfers and kitesurfers. The wind here is often stronger, making it a popular destination for water sports enthusiasts. Even if you don’t surf, it’s a great place for a long walk along the beach or to take those iconic photos of Table Mountain.

Perfect for: Windsurfing, kitesurfing, Table Mountain views.
