CAPE TOWN ESSENTIALS

Where to stay?
Your ideal stay
When planning your stay in Cape Town, choosing the right neighbourhood is just as important as the accommodation itself. While we don’t have specific recommendations for hotels, hostels or Airbnbs, we do want to give you some advice on the neighbourhoods where you can look for accommodation. Below you’ll find an overview of our recommendations.

On the 'beautiful' side of the mountain
Tip: always check if your accommodation is dealing with loadshedding (see practical tips page) and if they have a generator to generate power in case of a power outage. Especially if you work remotely from your accommodation, it is important to know if your WiFi works during loadshedding.
If you want to get the most out of your stay, we recommend staying on the west side of Table Mountain, with its beautiful sea views. This area not only offers spectacular views, but also easy access to beaches and a relaxed atmosphere.

-
Camps Bay: This area is known for its upscale vibe, beautiful beaches and great restaurants. However, be aware that accommodation here tends to be on the pricier side.
-
Sea Point: A slightly more affordable option with a pleasant promenade, nice cafes and good connections to other parts of the city.
-
Clifton: Famous for its beautiful beaches and exclusive properties, this area is perfect for a luxurious and peaceful experience.
Central areas
For those looking for something a little more urban (and affordable), the following neighbourhoods are ideal:

-
Green Point: A vibrant and safe neighbourhood close to the V&A Waterfront, with plenty of restaurants and cafes.
-
Gardens: This neighbourhood is a little further from the coast, but offers a charming and relaxed atmosphere with lots of greenery and excellent dining options.
-
Tamboerskloof: A picturesque neighbourhood at the foot of Table Mountain, with a mix of quiet streets and hip cafes.
-
Woodstock: Known for its creative vibe, art galleries and markets, this up-and-coming neighbourhood has plenty of character and unique accommodation options.
About CBD (Central Business District)
Although the CBD is often seen as a less touristy choice, we have stayed here several times and always had a great time. It offers many nice places to eat and drink, museums and cultural hotspots. However, we do not necessarily recommend this area for a holiday, mainly because of the crowds and the lack of peace compared to other areas.
For peace and nature
If you are looking for a quiet area a little further from the city to relax, Constantia is an excellent choice. This leafy suburb is known for its vineyards, spacious accommodations and serene atmosphere.
